Senna Imola ’94 – WIP

I’m still trying to decide on a satisfactory composition for the various elements of this little diorama.  I want to give prominence to the Senna figure and try to convey a sombre mood as he takes a few private moments planning his own tribute to the tragic passing of a fellow driver – Roland Ratzenberger.   So I’ve concentrated my painting efforts up to now on the figure and the flag.  Continue reading “Senna Imola ’94 – WIP”

More on that F10 – are we there yet….are we there yet……are we….??

Painfully slow but looking good (I think!) – anyway I’ve let my imagination “run” a bit when applying the decals – lots of improvisation and creative license! While I’m committed to the all matt black finish, it occurred to me that it might be a little more pleasing to the eye if I created some “echoes” so to speak which would break up (a bit of a contradiction on my part- apologies) the overall black but would at the same time create a kind of harmony!  So I added some of these “echos” by applying some additional carbon-fibre to the upper body to echo the under-body floor finish finish.  Continue reading “More on that F10 – are we there yet….are we there yet……are we….??”

F10 Steering wheel…important bit @300KPH!

Another little piece of the jigsaw – I popped some color and various shades of grey to bring this rather important pice of the jigsaw together – so far it’s looking ok – I may use a little bit of CF to make it a bit more convincing and I also have to place the prancing horse logo in the centre… and on we go…boring, boring I hear you say – yep!! & as I couldn’t decide which pic was the most clear, I posted them all! Continue reading F10 Steering wheel…important bit @300KPH!

F10 Seat harness…………..

…….at the third attempt!  I’ve lost so many of the fiddly bits from the belt buckle set as they flew off in all sorts of directions around the room that I’ve ended up cobbling together a very unorthodox looking harness – but for now it’s done – well nearly – I have to trim some of the hairyier looking bits and add the Santander logos to the shoulder straps.   The other problem I had was getting the straps to sit down correctly rather than standing proud of the seat.  Seat harnesses are quite a weighty item (given that they have … Continue reading F10 Seat harness…………..

Ferrari F10 seat harness

Using a beautiful little Folding tool (the Flip-R5) from RB Productions, I’ve started folding the parts from the SCALE Motorsport photoetch 1/24 Harness  kit # 8124.  I have to admit my approach to folding photoetch in the past has been very unscientific – a razor-blade and the edge of a steel ruler was always guaranteed to produce a slightly wonky result!   The photoetch kits from SCALE Motorsport are top class and using the Flip-R5 for the first time was an absolute revelation – never knew it could be so easy – a wonderful little tool which made short work … Continue reading Ferrari F10 seat harness

Denizen Miniatures – more WIP!

Spent the morning putting some more detail on my latest batch of 43rd scale figures – all Denizen castings. I concentrated on this lot which includes, Gilles Villeneuve, Jackie Stewart, Denny Hulme, “Bernie”, Alain Prost  and a Marlboro “Pit-babe”. I pretty much finished the Bernie figure and over the next 24 hours I’ll make a third pass with appropriate decals, and shading – hopefully I’ll post more progress tomorrow, Cheers, Continue reading Denizen Miniatures – more WIP!

The (un)-usual little suspects!

I’m trying to keep the motivation going on the painting front – it’s difficult at the moment spending any time in the studio with the warm weather we are having.  Rather than spend a beautiful morning indoors, I took some of my reference material (scrap books & cutouts etc) and tidied them into some folders and at the same time, lapped up a beautiful warm southerly breeze on the back deck.   I always think it’s worth being very deliberate about enjoying good weather when it does come.  The winter will be long and cold and sometimes treasured memories of warmer … Continue reading The (un)-usual little suspects!

Tamiya Tool set 1/20 – the “well used look”

The tools from the Tamiy F1 pit crew set is something I’ve been threatening to do for some time now.  I have a couple of pre ’80’s car dioramas in mind and I want to incorporate that “grubby” effect which is so much a part of the F1 scene arond that time.  It was a time when spanners, screwdrivers and oily cans and rags were all very much a part of the pit scene.  Nowadays, you would be hard pushed to make out the engine in the back of a modern F1 car – gone is the massive maze of … Continue reading Tamiya Tool set 1/20 – the “well used look”

Workbench Log-jam caused by the Weather & Wimbledon!!!

I still have a number of projects log-jammed on the workbench – Lots of figures and that F10 project I started a while back.  My main problem is the weather and Wimbledon Tennis!  – I started to re-lay my deck at the back of the house when the weather was bright and sunny some weeks back – (I should be well finished it by now) but the weather has been so changeable in the last month – warm sunshine one minute followed by very heavy showers the next!   I spend my time setting up all the gear and the rest … Continue reading Workbench Log-jam caused by the Weather & Wimbledon!!!
