F10 Seat harness…………..

…….at the third attempt!  I’ve lost so many of the fiddly bits from the belt buckle set as they flew off in all sorts of directions around the room that I’ve ended up cobbling together a very unorthodox looking harness – but for now it’s done – well nearly – I have to trim some of the hairyier looking bits and add the Santander logos to the shoulder straps.   The other problem I had was getting the straps to sit down correctly rather than standing proud of the seat.  Seat harnesses are quite a weighty item (given that they have … Continue reading F10 Seat harness…………..

Ferrari F10 seat harness

Using a beautiful little Folding tool (the Flip-R5) from RB Productions, I’ve started folding the parts from the SCALE Motorsport photoetch 1/24 Harness  kit # 8124.  I have to admit my approach to folding photoetch in the past has been very unscientific – a razor-blade and the edge of a steel ruler was always guaranteed to produce a slightly wonky result!   The photoetch kits from SCALE Motorsport are top class and using the Flip-R5 for the first time was an absolute revelation – never knew it could be so easy – a wonderful little tool which made short work … Continue reading Ferrari F10 seat harness

Fernando Alonso – more 1/20 driver figures!

I’m still progressing through my stock of GF figures – this time I’m concentrating on Alonso in his Renault colors – I’m doing two versions – one wearing the helmet and the other carrying it and having a drink at the same time!  With the exception of the drink bottle tube, (the fingers on the hand which carries it) and some other bits and pieces the figures are more or less complete.  I spent some time getting the detail on the unworn helmet right (I still have to add comm’s wires, hans straps and visor) but so far it looks … Continue reading Fernando Alonso – more 1/20 driver figures!

More priming and undercoating – mindnumbing stuff!!

As usual, when I examined yesterdays batch at close quarters, I saw areas which needed further attention – so with more re-work in prospect, I added in more items in need of some primer including some more tool sets and a nice pair of 43rd scale figures together with some really nice 43rd scale armco from Denizen and two 24th scale drivers one of which is the Alonso figure for the F10 I’m building; the other one is an old Modellers figure representing Schumacher (pre Hans era). – Tomorrow is another day so I’ll let these dry and have another … Continue reading More priming and undercoating – mindnumbing stuff!!

Revell Ferrari F10 – WIP

After sanding down the body, I gave it another two coats of the Tamiya Ferrari red – unfortunately with mixed results once again!  I’m still having problems avoiding the dreaded orange -peel finish!   So, I’ll give it another sanding and then apply a couple of coats of clear as I’m not getting the finish I want from the paint – (more likely my fault than the paint as I’m way out of practice doing this) – so more later and hopefully I’ll solve the paint problem. Continue reading Revell Ferrari F10 – WIP

GF-models Driver figures – Revell Ferrari F10

I’ll use two of the GF-models driver figures representing Alonso for the F10’s I’m building at the moment – I’ve chosen two; GF-24-036 (a ringer for Alonso) and GF-24-003 which needed a bit of modifying in order to get the suit fitting tighter as worn by Alonso at the moment.  The “baggy” fit of the suit on this figure would be more akin to something worn by Jacques Villeneuve – he always seemed to wear his suit 4 sizes too large – maybe I’ll get another one – I feel a Sauber coming on? – no definitely not – too … Continue reading GF-models Driver figures – Revell Ferrari F10

Revell Ferrari F10 – back in the BLACK!!

The second of my two F10’s is going to represent (a very loose interpretation) of a Fiorano test version – once again there is just something I find very mysterious about matt black cars – so I couldn’t resist giving the F10 the  full treatment in BLACK!  With the exception of the wheels, all these test version seem to be entirely black, so to save myself effort and time I decided to leave all the pieces on the sprue for the initial coats – I’ll clean up seam and sink marks later and give them another coating. Coming back to … Continue reading Revell Ferrari F10 – back in the BLACK!!

Revell Ferrari F10 X 2! – more progress and more work!

The “more progress” I refer to is that, I’ve applied the undercoat/primer, however, on the other hand, the “more work” refers to the fact that I purchased another Revell F10 kit!!!  – I just can’t believe what I did – I’m still in shock – it’s at least 20 years since I built a plastic formula 1 kit and then, in the space of a month, I’ve started two!   Since I started the first one I’ve really been bitten by the bug in more ways than one – I absolutely love the lines of the F10 – (it’s a clear … Continue reading Revell Ferrari F10 X 2! – more progress and more work!

Revell Ferrari F10 – work in progress

Here’s a quick overview of my approach and experiences of the assembly process so far: Engine fully asembled – (very straightforward). Assemble both exhaust stacks but don’t attach them to the engine yet – check later that outlets line up with openings in bodywork. Attach engine and lower part of gearbox to chassis floor  – (also straightforward). Assemble and attach top of airbox/rollover bar to top of body Having assembled both radiator pods and attached them to the body, I think I should have left them off  for painting – but we will see later! I also cut the top … Continue reading Revell Ferrari F10 – work in progress
