A brace of “Silk Cats”!

A brace of Silk Cats from 1987 – both 1/24 XJR-8’s from Hasegawa # 4 car driven by Boesel and Cheever and #5 by Watson & Lammers.  Hasegawa also produced kits of the XJR-9’s (which swept to that historic victory in 1988).  The kits  include wonderful sets of decals (including the tobacco branding) for all the TWR cars entered in Le Mans that year.  I actually have all of those kits in my “stash”, and at some future date I hope to get around to building them – hopefully before the decals begin to “mellow & yellow”! Workbench Log-jam caused by the Weather & Wimbledon!!!

I still have a number of projects log-jammed on the workbench – Lots of figures and that F10 project I started a while back.  My main problem is the weather and Wimbledon Tennis!  – I started to re-lay my deck at the back of the house when the weather was bright and sunny some weeks back – (I should be well finished it by now) but the weather has been so changeable in the last month – warm sunshine one minute followed by very heavy showers the next!   I spend my time setting up all the gear and the rest … Continue reading Workbench Log-jam caused by the Weather & Wimbledon!!!

Senna and Prost

I originally painted both these figures (made by Modellers) a couple of months back.  I was going to take some more photo’s of them today and the colors looked to me to be a bit “flat” so I did a bit of touch up and re-glazed both red suits with a red orange to lift them slightly. I also painted a small logo on the chest of Prosts T shirt.  It occupied me for an hour or so and gave me a chance to do a bit of color mixing. Continue reading Senna and Prost

Mini Helmets – 1/43 Denizen

These are a couple of driver helmets from the Denizen range in 1/43 scale I found lurking at the side of the bench – so I painted them up in some of the more recognizable liveries – ie Hill, Amon, Cevert (in the early days he didn’t put his name on the helmet!) Siffert – all painted in Vallejo acrylics with a couple of coats of klear. Continue reading Mini Helmets – 1/43 Denizen

Maserati 4 CLT – second version – Ink on paper

Spent the week-end in bed with a heavy cold – once a cold gets up and running there’s nothing much one can do, except lie down and take the medicine!  Even when I’m losing the will to live I find it really difficult to “Play the patient” – it’s just so boring and a complete waste of time!  Anyway being the bad patient that I am, I’ll always look to keep going (even though I’m lying down) – so I spent a couple of hours with the ink and paper again and I did another view of the Maserati engine- … Continue reading Maserati 4 CLT – second version – Ink on paper

Senna – the movie

I was fortunate to get an invitation to a preview screening of  “SENNA the movie” last night at the IFI in Dublin.  Apart from being put off by media “hype” prior to the release of this film, I’m generally a bit sceptical of documentaries which have a tendency to rehash old facts and images in order to produce something labelled as “new and revealing”; only to find it has been done to promote (and sell) the movie along with a controversial and unfounded “new spin” on the story.  In the case of “SENNA the movie”, this was absolutely not the … Continue reading Senna – the movie

Rossi’s secret weapon!

After breaking his leg in June last year at Mugello, Valentino Rossi surprised everyone with his remarkably quick recovery 40 days later at the German round in the  Sachsenring – so what was the secret behind his amazing recovery!  We all know how fantastically resilient and determined an individual he is – I’m sure his mindset and focus were a key part of the recovery process but I’ve no doubt the medical care (and TLC) he received from the doctors and nurses had a  lot to do with it! My own take on it is merely meant to raise a … Continue reading Rossi’s secret weapon!

Maserati 4 CLT – Ink on paper

It’s ages since I did some “plain old” sketching, so I passed a coupe of hours over the week-end working on this picture of a Maserati 4CLT power-plant using ink on heavy watercolor paper.  I have to say it’s very satisfying to capture the essence of the subject using just line and some cross-hatching.  I was going to introduce some washes for color, but I think I’ll leave the lines and the white of the paper speak for themselves.  The Maserati 4CLT was the car Fangio (then an unknown quantity from Argentina) used in 1949 to burst onto the world … Continue reading Maserati 4 CLT – Ink on paper

Fernando Alonso – more 1/20 driver figures!

I’m still progressing through my stock of GF figures – this time I’m concentrating on Alonso in his Renault colors – I’m doing two versions – one wearing the helmet and the other carrying it and having a drink at the same time!  With the exception of the drink bottle tube, (the fingers on the hand which carries it) and some other bits and pieces the figures are more or less complete.  I spent some time getting the detail on the unworn helmet right (I still have to add comm’s wires, hans straps and visor) but so far it looks … Continue reading Fernando Alonso – more 1/20 driver figures!
