Some shots of my RA301 together with a GF-models figure painted up to represent “Big John”. I’ve always liked this diecast although I’m hoping that Ebbro will bring one out in plastic kit form – it would have such potential and loads of appeal! This lot is a mixture of 1/18 & 1/20 figures in various stages of completion. Â The ones nearly there are; the trio from Racing Dioramics of; Gurney, McLaren, Donohue & the “interloper”, Rosemeyer. Continue reading “Bench update – (on a grander scale!)”
I just started blocking in the main colours on this 1/20 figure from GF-models. I don’t have any decals to suit, but my intention is to paint him up as Lewis Hamilton so I’m going to hand-paint the logos – we shall see and as they say: “all will be revealed! The photo above is just one shot of the finished piece which I entitled “For Roland” – click here for a full Gallery.  “Senna the Movie” has generated an unprecedented amount of discussion and interest into Ayrton Sennas life and indeed, his untimely and tragic death. And while the movie has unleashed many new insights into different aspects of his racing career, it has also raised many more questions. Ever since Senna burst onto the F1 scene back in the early ’80’s, I have always been a fan and I often found myself watching somewhat boring races just to see him perform. I always felt once he was on track his mere presence held promise of something “different” happening, even when the race had established a definite pattern or more often than not, when he was struggling to wrestle with an under-performing car. Continue reading “Last Private moments – (For Roland) – Imola 1994”
I’ve finished all the “Miliputting” now! – his head has now been properly attached, I gave him a pair of thumbs and added more detail to the suit and hat and generally refined the pose – so he looks pretty good now. I’ve just undercoated him with a couple of primer coats, so while that dries I’ll get to work on adding detail to the flight-case (table) on which his helmet, gloves and (Rolands) flag are resting – I’ll also probably add a water bottle (which I’m carving from clear sprue) to include a balancing vertical. All the levels and … Continue reading Ayrton Senna driver figure – Imola ’94

Unfortunately some heavy duty DIY has kept me otherwise engaged for the last few days -taking up a very stubborn old deck on the back patio is no joke – so when I managed a couple of hours break, I finished off Alonsos helmet and Hans!  Now back to the decking – oh how I love DIY….Doh! Continue reading Alonso gets his lid!
I’m still progressing through my stock of GF figures – this time I’m concentrating on Alonso in his Renault colors – I’m doing two versions – one wearing the helmet and the other carrying it and having a drink at the same time! With the exception of the drink bottle tube, (the fingers on the hand which carries it) and some other bits and pieces the figures are more or less complete. I spent some time getting the detail on the unworn helmet right (I still have to add comm’s wires, hans straps and visor) but so far it looks … Continue reading Fernando Alonso – more 1/20 driver figures!
Some shots of the final product – once again a GF-models fgure sporting the 2007-ish ferrari garbe – Schuberth helmet, Hans device Puma suit – branding is a mixture of Marlboro and Barcode (which I referred to in an earlier post) – To get the best from the figure I made some additions / amendments in the area of boots, gloves and drink tube / comms wiring in the helmet. The hinges for the helmet visor are domestic pins and 3d paint was used to represent the small lifting handles in the centre of the tear-offs (which are thin strips … Continue reading Another 1/20 Schumacher driver figure!
