Priming and undercoating – essential, but Boring stuff!

Boring as hell but for sure an essential part of model-making.    As I usually have up to 20 projects on the go at any one time, I generally try to include as many pieces as possible in one priming session, as I just find the whole process so boring and time consuming.  Apart from the actual spraying, the preparation takes up an enormous amount of time, but having said that, it’s an absolute must in terms of getting paint to stick  to the surface.  Initially I started out painting the Villeneuve helmets (I mentioned in yesterdays post) and then I … Continue reading Priming and undercoating – essential, but Boring stuff!

Gilles Villeneuve GF-models Driver figure WIP

I eventually got back to my line up of 1/20 driver figures and today I decided to tackle the Villeneuve figure and try to make some progress – it’s the dreaded “day job” – keeps slowing me down and distracting me!   I actually now have three Villeneuve figures on the go at the moment, different versions from 1977 to 1982 – (with and without the helmet).   One great aspect of these GF figures is the variety of helmet options they provide.  In the case of this Villeneuve kit, both the Bell and GPA helmets are included – so rather than … Continue reading Gilles Villeneuve GF-models Driver figure WIP

GF-models Driver figures – Revell Ferrari F10

I’ll use two of the GF-models driver figures representing Alonso for the F10’s I’m building at the moment – I’ve chosen two; GF-24-036 (a ringer for Alonso) and GF-24-003 which needed a bit of modifying in order to get the suit fitting tighter as worn by Alonso at the moment.  The “baggy” fit of the suit on this figure would be more akin to something worn by Jacques Villeneuve – he always seemed to wear his suit 4 sizes too large – maybe I’ll get another one – I feel a Sauber coming on? – no definitely not – too … Continue reading GF-models Driver figures – Revell Ferrari F10

Gilles Villeneuve 1/20 Driver figure WIP

Today, I made a return to the selection of miniature F1 driver I have on the go at the moment -  I started this one a couple of weeks ago (along with many others) and unfortunately the “day job” keeps getting in the way of some serious progress on these – but we have to eat!  I’m reasonably happy with progress so far – midtones, shades and highlights on the suit look ok , however, I will come back to them later and sharpen them up after I’ve applied the decals.  Flesh tonesand eyes look ok, so now I’ll prepare … Continue reading Gilles Villeneuve 1/20 Driver figure WIP

Revell Ferrari F10 – Alonso – Monaco 2010

The first plastic F1 kit I’ve bought for many years arrived today (beautifully packed) from Netmerchants in Belfast. Box art is pretty good: Parts come molded on red / grey and surface detailing is quite  good. The kit is 1/24 scale and it can be assembled to represent 4 different versions as raced by both Alonso and Massa in the following races during 2010: Version 1 Baharain, Version 2/3 Spain & Germany, Version 4 ferraris 800th GP in Turkey. Decals The kit is worth buying jut for the decals alone, they are stunningly printed and are very comprehensive indeed. I’ll … Continue reading Revell Ferrari F10 – Alonso – Monaco 2010

Gilles Villeneuve 1/20 scale driver figure

Another of the driver figures I have just added to my Work in Progress stock is this one of Gilles Villeneuve.  The figure is by GF-models and apart from being very nicely detailed it has an excellent likeness to the man himself.  So far, I’ve just slightly modified the hair (to make it slightly longer) and I’ve also added some detail to the polo necked fireproof under vest.   As I have three figures of Gilles to make and paint, I’ve decided to depict him wearing different overalls representing different periods from his short driving career – this version will be … Continue reading Gilles Villeneuve 1/20 scale driver figure
