Denizen Miniatures – more WIP!

Spent the morning putting some more detail on my latest batch of 43rd scale figures – all Denizen castings. I concentrated on this lot which includes, Gilles Villeneuve, Jackie Stewart, Denny Hulme, “Bernie”, Alain Prost  and a Marlboro “Pit-babe”. I pretty much finished the Bernie figure and over the next 24 hours I’ll make a third pass with appropriate decals, and shading – hopefully I’ll post more progress tomorrow, Cheers, Continue reading Denizen Miniatures – more WIP!

The (un)-usual little suspects!

I’m trying to keep the motivation going on the painting front – it’s difficult at the moment spending any time in the studio with the warm weather we are having.  Rather than spend a beautiful morning indoors, I took some of my reference material (scrap books & cutouts etc) and tidied them into some folders and at the same time, lapped up a beautiful warm southerly breeze on the back deck.   I always think it’s worth being very deliberate about enjoying good weather when it does come.  The winter will be long and cold and sometimes treasured memories of warmer … Continue reading The (un)-usual little suspects!

Tom needs a hole in his head!

I’m painting up these 1/6 scale character heads for a friend of mine.  He has a collection of Action men figures and he’s going to give some of them a bit of individuality by adding these character heads.  The thing is, in order to attach them to the figures they need quite a large hole drilled in the neck and I don’t have exact measurements – so as my late father used to say: “Measure twice – cut once”  – better safe than sorry!  In the meantime, I’ve made a start on the Tom Hanks figure – it needs a … Continue reading Tom needs a hole in his head!

Our “Nige” – 1/18 driver figure

Using an original (stripped down) Minichamps 1/18 driver figure I’ve painted this in acrylics and added some MSM decal to create Nigel Mansell in the garbe he would have worn while driving “Red 5” otherwise known as; the Williams FW14b.  I added the comms link and breather tube to the helmet and I finished it with a couple of coats of Klear and I also applied matt varnish on the suit to seal in all the decals – (which were tricky to fit as they are intended for use on a 1/20 scale figure) – so plenty of Mocrosol a … Continue reading Our “Nige” – 1/18 driver figure

Tamiya Tool set 1/20 – the “well used look”

The tools from the Tamiy F1 pit crew set is something I’ve been threatening to do for some time now.  I have a couple of pre ’80’s car dioramas in mind and I want to incorporate that “grubby” effect which is so much a part of the F1 scene arond that time.  It was a time when spanners, screwdrivers and oily cans and rags were all very much a part of the pit scene.  Nowadays, you would be hard pushed to make out the engine in the back of a modern F1 car – gone is the massive maze of … Continue reading Tamiya Tool set 1/20 – the “well used look”

A brace of “Silk Cats”!

A brace of Silk Cats from 1987 – both 1/24 XJR-8’s from Hasegawa # 4 car driven by Boesel and Cheever and #5 by Watson & Lammers.  Hasegawa also produced kits of the XJR-9’s (which swept to that historic victory in 1988).  The kits  include wonderful sets of decals (including the tobacco branding) for all the TWR cars entered in Le Mans that year.  I actually have all of those kits in my “stash”, and at some future date I hope to get around to building them – hopefully before the decals begin to “mellow & yellow”! Workbench Log-jam caused by the Weather & Wimbledon!!!

I still have a number of projects log-jammed on the workbench – Lots of figures and that F10 project I started a while back.  My main problem is the weather and Wimbledon Tennis!  – I started to re-lay my deck at the back of the house when the weather was bright and sunny some weeks back – (I should be well finished it by now) but the weather has been so changeable in the last month – warm sunshine one minute followed by very heavy showers the next!   I spend my time setting up all the gear and the rest … Continue reading Workbench Log-jam caused by the Weather & Wimbledon!!!

Senna and Prost

I originally painted both these figures (made by Modellers) a couple of months back.  I was going to take some more photo’s of them today and the colors looked to me to be a bit “flat” so I did a bit of touch up and re-glazed both red suits with a red orange to lift them slightly. I also painted a small logo on the chest of Prosts T shirt.  It occupied me for an hour or so and gave me a chance to do a bit of color mixing. Continue reading Senna and Prost

Valentina – another of Valentino Rossi’s team!

I assembled this figure some time ago using a combination of Superglue to attach the arms (and Epoxy to reinforce the legs together with metal pins) – so I thought there should be no problems with it all staying in one piece -alas one of the legs separated just below the knee – so this time I used a heavier grade pin and some really fresh Superglue and after 48 hours, so far so good.  I’ll attach it to the base and get started on painting – (which I probably won’t enjoy – I’ll try!).  I’ve done a little modifying … Continue reading Valentina – another of Valentino Rossi’s team!

Mini Helmets – 1/43 Denizen

These are a couple of driver helmets from the Denizen range in 1/43 scale I found lurking at the side of the bench – so I painted them up in some of the more recognizable liveries – ie Hill, Amon, Cevert (in the early days he didn’t put his name on the helmet!) Siffert – all painted in Vallejo acrylics with a couple of coats of klear. Continue reading Mini Helmets – 1/43 Denizen
