In my humble opinion this is one of the most iconic race cars from the 1960’s. Driven by Jim Clark to victory in the Indianapolis 500 it was a total “Game Changer” in terms of race car design as it was the first rear engined car to win at the Brickyard and thereby sealing the doom of the front engined roadsters – no front engined car would ever win the 500 Indy again. Still on the “Jim Clark” theme, I’m using a Sepia technique for this image from the 1967 Indy 500 of Clark driving his “STP Oil Treatment Special” (which was essentially a Lotus 38).  He won there in 1965 and was second in ’66, however, in ’67 he retired with 35 laps left and was ranked 31st overall. I’m using acrylics on a canvas panel – so far so good – hope to finish it tomorrow – that’s if I can resist the temptation to introduce “color” into it, (it always goes a little pear shaped when I start going … Continue reading Jim Clark – Indy 500 – Acrylic on canvas

I started putting this famous image of the late great jim Clark driving his Lotus 49 onto canvas with acrylics. I initially “warmed” up the canvas with a wash of cad yellow orange and then blocked in the main shapes and values. I’m pretty happy with it so far, so I’m going to take a break and get back to painting the rest of those miniature driver figures. More on this later.
